HOMELESS AUSTRALIA
Australia's homeless population has stayed stable over the past 6 years, but is that supposed to be a good thing? Yes Australia has stopped it's increase in homeless people, but why are we not trying to reduce it? Some people choose to be homeless and that is an opinion we should respect, but 98% of people do not choose to be homeless. Forced out of homes, struggling on money and living below the poverty line, being harassed or abused. This is not how Australia's people should be treated. With a whopping 25% of Australia's homeless population being Indigenous Australians, and a big 30% of the homeless population was born overseas. This could be seeking into issues such as gender and race equality, especially in the workforce. Many employers seek for young (age discrimination) and people of a certain race (racism), could this all be leading to why so many Australians are homeless? |
There are currently 105, 237 people in Australia who are homeless.
Statistics show that the homeless population consists of 56% males and 44% are females. 40 out of every 10,000 people don't have a bed to go home to every night. That's 0.5% of us. State breakdown
Where are people staying?
How old are they?

From these sources we can easily see that a large number of people in the Northern Territory are homeless, a large population of people whom are of Indigenous background reside in the Northern Territory, showing that many people of indigenous background are suffering the most.
The most common ages for homeless people are 25-34 and under 12. That's some crazy statistics! Many of these children would not be able to survive homeless on their own, hence they are probably homeless though living with a family.
Parent's actions have been brought down onto children, these children need to be given a fair go at life. Government should aim to support these children who lack the facilities and opportunities to a basic right of education.
